What, exactly, are you planning for a drivetrain? My people should get together with your people.

    oh probably, though I dunno.

Linus's engine and transmission need rebuilds. So who knows where I'll end up. :)

Yup, unicorns might exist, the toolbox is solid.

Yes Larry, MOP took the OD, roll cage, transmission and transfer case out of it. I'd say he got his money's worth out of it.

Nice project. Are those Trailhandler tires? if so they are as good as the BFG ATs, even better in the snow.

Umm, I dunno, I'd have to look at them but it's dark now.

Doesn't matter what they are, they aren't staying and it won't see snow. Well, not on the road where there's salt. :D

    Have you run the V6?

Does it have a bell housing?

My initial thoughts are to keep Linus whole. Throw a 3spd in it to get it running again, use it to fund this one.

I'm setting that SM465 aside, just in case. :D

A good used 6x29 OD needs to be your first hunt, prolly going to be the hardest piece of the puzzle.

    Re: My newest project

Haven't run the V6, needs hooked up, needs a harmonic balancer, it is an OF 231 though of unknown condition.

First hunt is for a running, functional drivetrain, OD doesn't do any good without a running engine, transmission, and transfer case. :D

I know the heads on the 225 in Linus have been rebuilt and the camshaft is new and new springs. I do have another 252H sitting in the basement though...

I've got plenty of time to think about it and only a little money to work with so nothing will be decided right away.

Meh. Everything else is easy. You know you're gonna need an OD with the 5.38, might as well start looking. Unless you get lucky enough to find someone with a complete OD drivetrain. Course, you're lucky enough to end up with that body, so who knows...

Seriously considered keeping the 3.73 axles, with a SM465/T18/SM420 for what I like doing it would be just fine and I'd keep the flanged rear and power disks in front.

Interesting, I see where you're going with that. Yup, 59ish to 1 would work. I'm thinking you could get Linus' V6, an SM465/D18 sans OD, and your old axles swapped in for around $1000.

    Adapter $500
    Tranny mount $20
    BOP machine work $25
    Shafts cut/balanced $250
Misc brake fittings, u-bolts, other assorted hardware $200

    Re: My newest project

That was Lynn's setup in his Green '71, T18 3.73, D30 front. So I'm not breaking any new ground if I do something like that.

Does have it's advantages though, OD doesn't get me the D30 turning radius and open knuckles, and the disk brakes on the D30 (I know they swap but the whole axle is easier) and a flanged rear, though honestly I'm not concerned about that knowing how I drive.

You did leave out one expense, finding the transmission.
