Has anyone ground down the welds on the back of the plate that bolts to the dash moved it up 6" than tacked the tube back to the plate cut bottom of the tube and steering shaft down 6" in the middle of the shaft and made a bushing about 3" long welded it back together to put it back to the right lenth so you have more room in a cj-5 thinking about tring it getting tight with racing seats anythoughts would be very helpful thanks

:? I'm puzzled by your description. Some punctuation would be helpful.

Before I would do all that work I would just toss in a GM tilt. I get what your saying, but wonder how close you want your wheel to the dash/windshield.

Cut tube from dash plate, extend it up 6" reattach

Cut tube from floor mount, lower 6" reattach

Thus tilting column up a significant amount.
