I need a new fuel tank for my '66 Dauntless.
Are there any sources for replacements? I have not found a tank with both the upper and lower fuel lines.

This one uses the 6-screw sensor not the locking ring type.
Worst case I can buy a repro and solder in the necessary pickup and return but it would be nice to find the right tank.

Bummer, I just took one to the dump a couple weeks ago.
Try www.jeepdoc.com or search the forums for sources.

My tank has been moved from under the seat to the rear. The parts are from a 1978 CJ. Maybe a setup like that will work for you.

Lower and upper fuel line? Why do you need two fuel lines? Are you using the fuel pump with a return line? Usually the lines on the top of the tank go through the sending unit.

I am curious about this as well. I just replaced the fuel tank in my jeep and noticed the new tank does not have a fuel line connection on the bottom of the tank. The new sending unit has two connections so that is what I tried. I primed the pump, fuel filter, fuel line and it started right up. The problem is that after I shut the engine off, I am unable to restart without priming everything again. . I seems like it is not pulling fuel out of the tank. I tried reversing the return line and fuel delivery line, still doesn't work.
    Any ideas are welcome.

I think you must have an air leak somewhere. Either that, or the pump is broken. Physically, there's no difference between taking the fuel out of the top of the tank or out of the bottom - the only thing that matters is the level of the fuel compared to the level of the pump. The pump will easily lift the fuel that distance.

    10-4, Thank you

FSM states that I could check that the pump produces sufficient volume in filling a half pint bottle by cranking the engine over. Over 20 strokes, something is wrong. I am going to try this evening.
I do not have a gauge to determine the pressure. Short of acquiring a gauge, is there any other way to roughly determine sufficient pressure?

If you have the stock pump, I think the jelly jar test will be fine. The stock pump should not deliver more pressure than the spec, and if the pressure is low, you should also be low on volume. You want to hold your jar up as high as the level of the carb, to see if the pump has at least that much head.

As far as I can tell the two line systems started with the intro of the V6. The FSM says that fuel was circulated to help cool and avoid vapor lock. My early 66 has the lines running along the oil pan and going over to the frame at the steering gear then back to the tank. One line goes into the tank from the bottom. The return line goes to a fitting near the filler on the top of the tank. I modified a 4 cyl tank by adding the return fitting.

Later versions show both fuel lines running from the pump up and over the engine along the intake manifold. This may have started in 67.

Sometime around 67 they stopped making the tank with a bottom and top fitting and put the two fittings on the top of the tank on one big fitting. These are shown in the FSM. Since one is a return, it probably does not go as deep into the tank as the suction so you want to be sure you get these right.

At some time later a charcoal canister was also added. I'm not sure how that fit into the equation.

The charcoal canister was never used with the under-seat tank. The "vap can" system needs a non-vented tank with vapor taps in each corner - hard to do on the under-seat tank. The fuel return system is considered emissions related (called "vapor return" in some manuals) and is separate from the "vapor recovery" system that used the charcoal canister.

They must have been using up old tanks in your jeep. The 4 cyl tank has the bottom outlet.

Jeep never did that kind of thing...

Krage Motorsports has a replacement fuel tank listed for the 66-71 CJ's with a V6. Pretty good site for parts and reasonable on shipping in my experience. Web address is www.jeepdoc.com/catalog/
