I bought a FSJ T18/D20 because it was dirt cheap. It has aprox. 10" of stick out, a 6+ 1st gear, and a GM bellhousing adapter which I will not need. I checked AA and Novak and all I can find is a new input shaft and retainer from Novak for use in a CJ, # T18-1SK. Has anyone done this swap before, FSJ T18to AMC? Will the shifter location be the same as the 3 speed on the floor? Does my bellhousing have the T18 bolt pattern as well as the 3 speed pattern? Was there different floor sheet metal for 3 and 4 speed CJs? Was there an adapter between the trans and bellhousing on factory T18s in CJs? ----1975 CJ6 360AMC with the I6 bellhousing and 3 speed.

Go to Novack and PartsMike.com and read. You have to rebuild the tranny and swap in a shorter input shaft. Once you swap input's, the FSJ t18 will sit in approximately in the same location as a jeep t18. There was no adapter in a CJ driveline.

This is a common question. I would search here and see what pops up.

Parts mike sells the kit for $200. There is an adapter between the t18 and the d20 but you have that together already. You will need the 76 up bell housing as I recall.

The search as aallison pointed out will really help you out. I had the parts to do the same thing on my 77 CJ5. I sold it with the parts and the young man that bought it is currently doing the same swap. http://upjeeping.informe.com/viewtopic.php?t=1884

Yes, many people have done this swap.

    Roughly, yes.

No, the OEM T-18 in the '75 used the same bellhousing as the 3-speeds with a plate adapter. The input shaft length is different (longer) compared to the easily available Ford input shaft.

    You mean floor panels? Yes.

    Yes, see above.

What engine was this transmission behind? If it was a 258, and you have the bell and adapter, it will bolt up to the 360 and be short enough for a CJ-5. The most common transmission is from behind a 360, and that will have a long input shaft (ca 14" IIRC) and a 5" thick adapter - not suitable for a CJ-5

If it's a Jeep transmission and 6.32:1 first gear, you can buy the Ford input shaft from Parts Mike, and then use the T-150/T-176 bell from a later Jeep. The Bell will need to be drilled to match the Jeep T-18 case. There have been lots of posts about T-18 swaps - search this forum and the Early CJ-5 forum for more information.

    hth!
