My neighbor found the serial number plate for the jeep that he gave me. It shows "57548-78537". All the info I've found has the first series of numbers from around 1955-1957. The first series doesn't show for the second number series on the plate in any of the info. I think it's a '58. Can anyone set me straight? Thanks

57548 is the designation for CJ-5
The rest is sequential production number.
Based on that number you list, it is a 1958 model.
Google "Jeep Serial Numbers" and it will take you to several sites, choose the one that shows the numbers as well as production numbers.

Thanks. Now for the frame. The body presently is not bolted to the frame but is just resting on it. I'm thinking it may be a different frame as well. The frame is sporting the U-shaped spring shackles which; I read; they discontinued after the '57 model year. Can anyone substantiate this? And where would I find a number on the frame?

Your frame serial number will be on top of the right framerail right between where the firewall is and the axle some where. It usually gets covered up with crud and paint etc. I couldn't find mine until I did a little light sanding to expose it.

I found the frame number (50447) which was located above right axle. Anyone out there that knows what the number means? I'm still not sure if the frame is matching the body. Thanks

Your first SN you posted was 78537 the second is 50447, those certainly do not match. Does either one match the title?

Looks like you have a 1957 frame and 1958 body by the pdf Sparky posted.

Thanks to all. The spring shackles appear to all be right hand threads. With the non-matching serial number the guess for the '57 frame makes sense to me.
