A 1963 CJ5 showed up for sale near a local intersection this past weekend. I'm the current owner of an 1984 CJ7 that we drive as often as we can and I don't need another CJ, but this one sparked my interest so much I can't quit thinking about the possibility of making an offer. However I thought I'd come here to get some professional opinions. I read the sticky about information you would need to give a fair assessment and I think I have most of it. The owner commented on Sunday night that he would take 2500.00 for it.

    Pictures are here: http://picasaweb.google.com/sdunnavant/1963JeepCJ5#

Current owner claims (by the sign in the window) it is a barn find and is all original with 76,000 miles. The Jeep is in what I would call good condition. Th only facts I don't have are the exact engine or transmission it has. I took several pictures and surely somebody can identify. But the transmission I don't know. I assume one of the factory issued? Heavy rust around spare tire carrier and floorboards but none anywhere else. Has factory steel hardtop with rear window that slides up track in good shape. Factory steel doors operate, handles included. Factory PTO Koenig winch on front bumper is claimed to work. All original knobs, guages, seats. Aftermarket electric windshield wiper motors.

If you have any questions, please ask!

    Thanks, Steven

PS. If you can navigate my Picasa web albums, we took pictures of a CJ-2A that is a couple miles down the street as well. Not in nearly as good a shape but a decent find as well. It's rumored to be sellling at $2000.00.

On the radio I'm only going by what the owner claims. I thought it looked a little "modern" as well. Now if it had been 8 track......

Factory 4 cylinder, the Willys F-head 134 cid.

$2000-3000 is a good buy if you want to preserve or restore it. That is, restore in the actual sense of the word, back to factory condition. Preserve means polish it up and make what's there as good as it can be... original paint, etc. 1963 is in the middle of the run, and pretty ordinary though - I'd be more interested in preserving a '55. If you want to modify it, I think you can do much better.

The CJ-5 is nice, but I'd buy that 2A if the price were right.

It's a clean Jeep, and in good shape. You could do a whole lot worse! I like the hardtop. How much is that worth in decent shape? With working doors??

Bottom line... If you WANT it, BUY it! monkeys

I'ld give $2500 for it! Running condition, with a hardtop and PTO winch? Heck yeah!
Paid 2k for mine, without the top and winch.

Just don't expect it to be as fast as your CJ7, though.

Hey if you do buy it I might be interested in the buying the hard top from you if you don't want it. I agree though, if you want it and have the spare cash, buy it.

has a duel stick PTO as well and looks to be in good shape, 2500 is a fair price, but 2000 would be better:) I'd say it's worth $2500
