    Hey Guys,

It kills me to do it but after 9 years of owning my dream Jeep, I'm selling her. I've got a 3 and 5 year old and they are dying to ride in my Jeep. For the past 5 years, I've averaged only 2 to 3 fill ups of gas per year. Being a fiberglass bodied Jeep with the roll bars going to the body (not frame) and having no back seat coupled with the fact that it's lifted as much as it is with big tires, I've decided to sell my CJ and buy a year 2000 or newer Wrangler that my wife can drive and is safe for kids in car seats. The Wrangler will be a 3rd vehicle (with the CJ gone ) and will get driven daily. It makes me sick to think about it but It's the right choice for me at this point in my life.

I have a number in mind as to what I think it's worth but I want some second (and third!) opinions.

    It's a 1974 CJ5

    • Full Fiberglass Body
    • AMC 304ci
    • Autometer Pro Comp Gauges
    • 34" x 9.5" Super Swampers
    • Electronic Ignition
    • Power Steering

I never wheeled it seriously and it's always been garaged and driven during the summer time. It starts right up and drives great.

Another question I have is: I've heard that the value of Jeeps varies depending on the area of the country it is being sold. Is this true? How does it break down geographically? Where does the North East fit in the equation?

Ya know, I don't think I would sell my Dream Jeep.

If the 2000 is a third vehicle and going to be a daily driver, why not sell vehicle 2 or vehicle one instead. Then you still have your toy.

I will send you a Pm for my estimate. Somehow, I think that is appropriate.

I have thought the same as well sometimes. BUT,

Why couldn't you tie the cage into the frame??? Lot's of people do it. They make kits.

Why couldn't you build a cage that incorporates child seat mounts in the back??? At their current age they would have plenty of room back there.

If those aren't an option and you feel you really need to sell it, I would say you would be able to get 5-7k or so for it. I know, it probably seems really low, but if you look at the current market, there isn't a huge draw for our older Jeeps.

You will never get back what you have in it. It's a sad fact, but it's the truth. I have thought about selling mine for a newer Jeep, but haven't been able to convince myself and mine isn't my dream Jeep:) It still needs some work!!!

Good luck with your decision, but if it were me, I wouldn't sell.

Put in a back seat and seatbelts, drive it careful with the kids and call it done. I've got a glass body, SOA w/ 36's, and wheel with my kids all the time. Otherwise, you're gonna lose your shirt selling it, in this economy I would guess 3 -5k.

X2 -- with possibly looking to extend the rollcage and tie it to the frame. IMHO with a good 'cage and belt setup you'd be just fine.
