I need help finding a supplier for either a new OEM steering column or all the bearings, and horn parts to rebuild the one I have. There seems to be tons of parts for 76 and up but none for 75 and earlier.

Can't find parts? That is what makes it collectable!

I'd think any of the Crown distributers would have what you need. Try Walcks, Krage, Turner, etc.

Also, the jeep columns are almost indetical to the GM. I bet the GM parts are eaiser to find.

    Some are almost bolt ins.

No, not before 1976. In 1976, Jeep went to the GM column in the CJs, but before that they used the skinny black column with the "bus wheel" steering wheel. Not GM.

The intermediate columns have more in common with the early columns (54-71) than the later GM columns. They are very similar to the postal Jeep columns.

If you can't find the parts you need, you'll either have to have them made or find good used ones. Parts availability for the intermediate CJs (72-75) is indeed poor compared to the later models. You just have to be more resourceful.

I'd suggest you post up the exact parts you are concerned with, along with pictures and/or drawings.

Yes, do post up the exact parts you need. I might be able to help you out. The PO gave me an extra steering column off of a '75 CJ, so I might have what you need.

Thanks for the help. I ended up buying a plain steel stick column from Speedway motors. $99
This column is much smaller than the 76 and up and no parts are anywhere to be found. ( bottom nylon bushing, horn slip brush and the flimsy upper bearing cup). The one from Speedway is a 1.75 inch instead of the 1.5 stock so some modifiction will be needed, but sounds like a great and easy solution.

I switched to a flaming river tilt column. It wasnt to difficult to install but I made a custom dash so I am not sure about installation on the stock dash. Highly recommend the upgrade. www.flamingriver.com
