    1959 Cj5 all stock, while sliding around under the old girl noticed the spring are in bad shape along with the bushings , shackles, & shocks, Time to replace all….
    The question is how much lift can I get with out changing major parts.
    I see 4wd.com has a 1” , 2.5” then on up lifts,
    What say Y’all ???????

    1" if you want to stay with stock or close to stock tires just because the lift kit springs ride better than replacement.

    2" if you want larger tires.

    Larger than that gets into problems with driveshaft angles, steering etc. So that's the cutoff IMO for not changing out major parts...

    Sparky-
    With a 2” lift or 2.5” do you think there will be enough drive shaft extension and break line length not to get into trouble . like when jacking jeep up off the ground with a hi-lift jack or dropping the axle into a hole where both tires off the ground and bumper on the ground.{ this has happened more then once going down old logging roads and creek beds}
    Thanks for your input and help

    Staying as close to stock as possible is the best way to keep from getting into trouble. 1" sounds good especially if your springs are sagging to begin with.

    Depends on what size tire you want to use. 2" - 2 1/2" should clear 33 x 10.50's pretty well. Beyond that you are going to have to deal with other things, as mentioned above.

    I am running Pro-comp 2.5" springs and have had no issues with brake line length (I also have slightly longer shackles than stock) But the ride is very stiff......
    If I were to keep it riding nicely, the Old Man Emu springs are said to be excellent.

    Best price I could find last summer was national tire and wheel's 2 inch suspension special. The one I bought is a Superlift brand. It came with shocks for less than other kits without shocks. give them a call, they'll tell you what brand the special is. If price is not an issue, and you are not going heavy, the softest spring is reportedly the skyjacker softride. It is softer and flexier but may sag with time and heavier than stock weight (bumpers, winches, cages).

    Good luck
