I'll be looking at a 1957 CJ5 this comming Friday and I wanted to get some advise on what would be a reasonable offer for the CJ.

The CJ has no motor, seats, top and front clip is disassembled. The frame has rust but it is not rotted through it has been painted a few times. owner was in the process of restoring it , he mentioned that he was going to (never did) install a ODD FIRE Buick V6 engine to replace the old one.

This Cj comes with fiberglass tub and fenders and a good grill.

Asking price is $1500 negotiable, as per the add.

    Any input is greatly appreciated...

    Thanks,
    GC

Not worth $1500 by a long shot IMO.

For that it should be running and driving.

If it were me I'd keep looking. If I really wanted it, for parts, I'd offer $300-400 I think.

Well, I just paid $1300 for a 1969 CJ5 with a V6 that runs well, great frame, and a pretty rusted (but hopefully repairable...) body... It is quite drivable, but needs a good amount of work to be presentable and (relatively) safe [needs new brake lines/exhaust/radiator and lots of body work]. So...yeah...long story short, $1500 seems way over priced :)

X3. $300-$400 if it has a clear title, otherwise its only parts.

Eh - it'd go a bit higher around here. The 'glass tub and fenders alone probably worth $500 - so add in the rest and I'd say $600-$750 ish.

Have to agree with the masses even in SoCal $1,500 would be way too much

I'm with Boyink except that it sounds like the only thing worth anything IS the fiber tub and fenders. Here in the rust belt it is a worthwhile thing to consider. I'd consider 500 if I was gonna use the tub and likely scrap the rest.

Found on Craigslist. Paid 1,700 in SoCal for a M38A1 solid frame & body w/ blown engine. The guy through in a grand worth of new engine & brake parts.

Picked up a nice clean running engine for it also on Craigslist for 200.00.

It's best to start with a solid frame & body and remember missing parts will nickle & dime you.

    IMHO keep looking.

Title is a big factor? -- Is it clear and the seller has it? Is it in his name? not a temporary title ?
I would still sleep on it real hard before give what he is asking.
