amp light stays on

I have recently had the engine block striiped down and repainted on my 1963 CJ5

Since then my amp light for the charging system ( generator ) stays on... even when I increase the revs of the engine the light does not dim and dissapear.

It was working very well prior to the repainting.

I have been driving like this for a couple of weeks now and the battery seems to be holding its charge, although I have not checked it yet to be sure. I could be in for a surprise.

Could the charging system be working fine and what I have is a faulty amp light connection???
or is that plain old wishfull thinking.

Could it be the engine block grounding is not adequate due to the new paint?

I am not too sure which way to turn at this point.

    Thanks for any suggestions
    Fred

the first thing i would do is pull the ground, wire the paint from under it, and replace it and check.

Did you polarize the generator when you re-installed it? Just a thought.

The only accurate answer I can give you (from info supplied) is yes it is possible for the charging system to be working normal with the Gen/Alt light staying on but it depends on what system you are running? Some voltage regulators have a terminal that is dedicated for charge ind only. Don't know what system you are running?
