Well, I am new to the Jeep world. As my cousin mentioned in his post, we inherited a few Jeeps from our Grandpa that just recently passed away. There were 5 Jeeps in all. Here is the one that I took possession of and plan on restoring enough to enjoy, as he would have wanted.

The story behind the Jeep is that my Grandpa purchased the Jeep from Washington Township (Ohio) in 1981, drove it home and parked it on his carport. It has sat there ever since.

From what I can tell, the Jeep was used by the Fire Department to wrestle grass and brush fires. The frame was extended and a water tank was added to the rear of the Jeep. You can see the large filler neck on top of the back deck. The large front bumper held the water pump of some sort, to pump the water. I will be contacting the township to see if they have any older pictures of the jeep in action.

I will get more pictures of the frame modifications another day. Any insights on what I have would be most appreciated.

If there was a front mounted pump it looks as if it would have had its own engine which was fairly common. I don't see any PTO provisions up there.
Very nice firefighting Jeep. An old siren and warning lights would be real cool for parades.

Wow, that looks like a very clean 2A. Even the floorboards look to be in great shape :)

    Should be a great project!

    Welcome aboard!!
    What a cool rig! 8)
What are your plans? Restore it to firefighting appearance? Strip the FF stuff and make it a street/trail rig?
Lots of options brefore you... and a great platform no matter which way you go!
Congratulations... and keep us posted!! :tea:

Curious what the wheelbase is...from the pics the dimensions look very CJ6-ish. Neat looking rig!

Thanks everyone. the plan for the Jeep is to leave it mostly stock. I like the idea of the old lights and sirens, especially if I can dig up some history on the rig. I will get some picks of the frame mod and dimensions. the rig is in really great condition. Sat on my Grandpa's carport for 25 years half out of the elements. Just a bit of surface rust and no seats.

I have a few other vehicles that require Kitty Litter as well. Always good to have around.

Update. I can't get the pictures loaded here at work, but here are some dimensions.

Wheel base - Center of wheel to Center of Wheel - 98 Inches
Body length - Head lights to rear of cab (not including large bumpers) - 134 Inches

Looking at the frame, it seems as though there was 18 Inches welded in to the frame. Let me know what you think. I have some good pictures, but they are stuck on a memory card that isn't letting me sync them to my laptop.

    Updates to follow.......

Inside frame, where extended approx 18"

    Outside Frame where extended

Top of rear body where water hose connector is. Also looks like there were some welded on brackets at some time, maybe to hold the water hoses??

I vote for restoration. That would be sooooo coooollll painted red with all the fire engine stuff on it. Some gold letters, a hose reel, pump.

    I'd dirve it around town.

Post up some picts from back in the day if you get any.

    Great cj find!!

With all those springs, I'll bet it's a rough ridin son of a gun with water tank empty.

My first CJ was also a 47 2A. Loved that jeep. Your's is in much better condition than mine was in 1970.

    Enjoy and welcome.
