My dial will turn from lock to unlock just under 1/4 turn on one wheel. I tried to get a better grip with pliers but it didn't move and I didn't force it.

Is there a diagram of this type of hub somewhere? If I take it apart do I remove the allen screws or the bolts from the hub?

It has a brass dial with M54 stamped on it.

    Any help will be appreciated.

Well I do not have Warn hubs, but I would remove the hub assembly from the hub. I removed mine since I was rebuilding the brakes. Mine have three small screw which I removed to dis assemble the hub itself. I would imagine that all the locking hub would be pretty much the same. Just take your time, and don't force anything.

need picture of the hub, if its like mine its simple to fix, mine had to be clocked"lack of a better word" mine is set up on a screw design and it was just a little off, with some re adjustment to the hub it works fine

I have the same hubs. I have only removed them by taking off the bolts, never by taking off the allen heads. Mine were marked (alignment) with the hub when I removed them (punched with a dot).
Anyway check out this site and click on WL-2 on the right hand side of the page, lots of good info. http://www.jeep-trucks.com/hubs/warn/wa1-clutch.php

They only rotate 1/8th of a turn, don't they?
Do both hubs turn or just one of them?

Ludel's books cover the locking hubs.

Yes almost 1/4 turn and only one hub. Anyone know what I might be looking for once I open it up?

They should turn nearly 360 degrees. When disassembled you will see how they work by moving a sliding plate in or out to lock the hubs to the axle. They only need a little lubrication check warn website for details.

They should turn almost a full turn, from one dot all the way around the dial to the other dot.

I'd just take them apart and clean/lube them. Sometimes there's a snap ring on the end of the axle, under the dial (there originally, not neccessarily needed, often left off). The dial part comes off with the allen screws. Once the snap ring is off, you take out the six bolts and the hub come off.

The inner part with the finger tip recesses has 3 small arrows. The 2 on the outer rim next to the LOCK/Free words are rotation directions to acheive desired setting. The arrow on the rib between the recesses is the position indicator. Its visible in the pic.The outer housing has 2 settings labeled LOCK and FREE. Each of those has a small dot next to it.
The inner arrow aligns with the outer dot when at proper setting. The 6 bolts with lock tabs when removed will allow the hub to be removed. It can easily be disassembled and cleaned then lubed and reinstalled.
There is a hub wrench that has 2 kidney shaped bosses that fit the finger recesses. It has a T handle and greatly eases the operation of the hubs.
Rotation is about 10 degrees short of 360.
    hope this helps.

yep same hub i got, tear it down clean it has at least 1 o ring maybe 2, play with it a bit and you will see what you need to do"can do this before reinstall" its been nearly 2 years since ive been in mine, i think iirc the piece between the hub its self and the dial just needs the needles removed and rotated the right direction"clocked" so to speak, not a big deal, no need to pull the inereds of the spindle to fix your problem
