I am going to be putting a tilt steering column out of a '77 CJ5 into my '74 CJ5 in the very near future. To many of you that have already done this how did you mount the column inside the firewall to the dash? Or did you swap in a different set of brake/clutch pedals so the column would bolt directly to them? I have also been told the hole in the dash needs to be cut higher? I keep scratching my head but I am afraid I am going to catch the only single hair I have left and pull it out too, any help will be appreciated!!

    Thanks in advance.

I bought my CJ column from Centech. As I recall it came with a bracket to mount to the bottom of the dash. They also sell a plate from Ididit to mount to the floor. I did enlarge the cutout in the dash. I used a jigsaw to cut it and then trimmed the edge with a length of vacumn line that I split down the length and slipped over the cut edge. Try contacting Centech http://www.centechwire.com/ They'll probably sell you just the bracket parts you need.

I just wrote them but just looking on their site I didn't see anything....... we'll see what they say? How much higher up did you cut out of the dash?

Mine went into an Early CJ, so it may be different from yours. I cut it up about 1/2", but I'll probably go a little higher for a little more knee room. If you want fast results, I'd skip emailing any company that lists their phone number. A phone call usually answers your question right away instead of waiting on everyones overloaded email system.

I put a Flaming River Tilt Column in my 74. I had to buy a mounting ring from flaming river to mount to the dash and then I used a larger U-bolt on the inside of the fire wall. Also have a new custom dash so I cant tell you about the hole. As I recall it took me a long time to figure it all out. But it was definately worth it. Make sure you dont crank down too hard on the U-bolt at the firewall or it will bind up the column and you will have jerky steering
