Does anyone know of any 79 CJ 5 that had the 1 Barrel Carter on it? All along I have been thinking I have the 258 but now I am starting to wonder. Any sure way to tell?

    Thanks in advance!

what's your stamped engine code ?
    2bbls started in 1979.
    232 and 258 both used 1bbls.
the last of the 232s would have been 1978 I believe.

My buddies '78 CJ-7 with a 258 had a 1 barrel carb. we swapped the intake and exhaust manifold from a later model to do a TBI conversion on it. They may have had some left over and run into the next year.

The engine code is stamped into the block, between and below the #3 and #4 spark plugs. Post it up and we can decode it.

I am at work now, and can't get to that until this evening. I do have a number but I don't think it is the one you are talking about.

It starts with 3225202-2 the number below it reads (I think) 5.30.752

    Have a look...

Ok, I think I found the engine code!

    304C27

Does this tell anyone what I've got under the hood?

Thats strange then, because I definetly have the 1 bbl manifold, and the YF Carter. This must have been replaced at some point?

I'd think so. The 1V and 2V setups are easily interchanged. I can't see how the letter on the block could be wrong. A 1V would be "A" and a 232 would be "E".

That more than likely is what happened then. You never know what your PO has done until you start digging around.
