I just picked up a new to me 66 CJ6. The owner before me had a bad habit of rigging everything on it. My first question is does anyone have a part # for the Oil fill cap that goes on top of the valve cover? He had a bent and twisted cap on the passenger side that barely let me in to fill the oil. He has the hole on the passenger side, which from the pictures looks there should be a vent tube there. The hole has not flanges or anything, so getting something to work has been a challenge. Any help?

I need to go home and verify, but I think the original owner has the valve covers on the wrong side. Is this possible? On the passenger side (where he had the filler cap) the hole has no tab openings like the one shown on the top. I'll have to check the driver side and see what it looks like. http://www.earlycj5.com/gallery2/v/picBank/Engine/album_007/IMG_1514.JPG.html

(Don't think the link worked like I wanted it to)

The dip stick (drivers side) and filler cap is on same side on mine. very convenient. The breather tube goes into right side (oil bath type) and I believe that is the way its supposed to be.

Here is what I have. The first picture is of the passenger side. Note the flangeless hole in the back where the rigged filler cap was, and the breather in front that appears to be permanantly attached.http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn99/JMC3178/Picture002.jpg

The second photo shows the drivers side with the pcv valve onlly.http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn99/JMC3178/Picture.jpg

Does this look right? All the filler caps I've seen have two little tabs on them, however the place for my cap does not acecpt them. Any thoughts?

I posted a reply with pictures, but it didn't go thru. Do you have a pic of the other side?

Notice the breather in the front. It not come out, and the opening in the rear has no notches to allow the two tabs on the cap to fit into.

    Does this look right?

The breather on the front passenger side of yours should be able to be pulled out, ought to be a friction fit into a rubber gromet. The gromet may be old, shrunken and hardened up. I believe that the back hole should have a simular gromet that allowed another breather hose that could go to an air filter hookup as in my passenger side photo. If your P.C.V. system can operate satisfactory you may be just able to just close the back hole off with the appropiate size rubber plug. You would add oil by pulling the front breather and pouring the oil in that hole, then replace the breather and go wheeling :)

Oil fill on my 69 225 OF is on the driver's side.

PCV hose is on the pass side.

Seems to be a few variations of the valve covers, this spare set I have only has one hole per cover.
