25 years in storge

    Recently aquired a 55 cj-5 thats been sitting for close to 25 years indoors (thank god) . the body of this thing is unbelivable , one small hole in the lh lower rocker panel and thats it .Wondering if anyone has any ideas on what to do to get it running , it did run when it was stored . Has the f-head engine in it, its not seized but would like to get it to run so I can decide weather to restore the whole thing , or turf the drivetrain and build a monster.:twisted:

    A '55 in the condition you describe deserves to be restored, don't gut it. Carb rebuild, replace fuel lines, fuel pump, points, condensor, rotor, check distributor cap, plug wires. Basically a good tuneup. Gas tank probably needs cleaned out so you might use a line down in a gas can for getting it started for the first time. Take all spark plugs out and put some Marvel Mystery Oil in each cylinder and turn it over to get some cylinder lubrication. It would be best to get some oil pressure showing before attempting to start it also.

    X3...please don't "turf" it when there are so many half-baked basket cases out there that would be good fodder for a "monster". If that's what you end up wanting sell this one to someone who wants a restoration candidate.
