First of all, let me apologize for coming back to the board so many times with the same issue but I though before I sell this Jeep I'd give it one last go.

It's been a long haul, but I think I've hit the end of the road. The story goes something like this: I decided to rebuild the T14 transmission and D18 Transfer case and had some problems, but for the most part this part went really well.

While at it, I though how about a new pilot bushing, clutch and throw out bearing. Well I ordered a Center Force Clutch, looks like a nice unit, bolts up easily but then the rest of the story. I have had a nightmare trying to get the clutch adjustment just right. If I adjust the cable linkage per the factory service manual, the clutch won't completely disengage. If I adjust it so that the clutch disengages the TO bearing spins against the clutch diaphram.
I've tried for months now to get it right but just never succeeded.

Recently I contacted Novak and they were very helpfull. They sugested that I use a larger TO bearing 1 1/4". They said if that doesnt work, get rid of the Center Force and start all over with another brand.

Yesterday I rented the transmission jack again (third time that I've taken the transmission out), put in the new bearing and guess what? Yep no difference, same problem.

I'm sorry for venting but the final question is this: If I just let it ride against the clutch how long will it take for the TO bearing or the Clutch to wear out? I figure this way I can enjoy the Jeep a bit and then when it wears out I'll either sell the Jeep or replace the clutch with a different unit.

I know it's aggravating but don't sell the JEEP just because of the clutch issue. I don't remember what was in your other thread but are you sure the disc is facing the right way? I'm not familiar with the cable linkage, but maybe the cable is stretching under tension. I wouldn't drive it with the t/o bearing continuously spinning unless absolutely necessary.

I've got the disc facing the correct way,(that was one of the trips taking the transmission out, just to confirm). This is a 1971 that uses the cable set up. It could be streching, but it just doesnt get enough through which is why I think Novak recommended the longer bearing. I've also tried a longer pivot bolt but still no luck. Centerforce is convinced I've got the right clutch. What happens if I drive it with the bearing making slight contact?

Sorry to hear of so many problems.
For the record, my T.O. bearing rides on my clutch in my 67' 1 ton truck.
I've had to replace it twice in 19 years. Driven daily.
If the jeep isn't a daily driver, it'll most likely last a long time. YMMV
Not saying it's proper to leave it that way, but if you want to drive it, and I'm sure you do, I'd just do it!

Thanks, thats just what I'm going to do. I'll set it for the least amount of tension that works and then forget about it. When and if it goes I'll figure out the next step then.
