ok drained the transfer case it only had about 8-12 oz of fluid in it, maybe thats what was making the noise. hopefully new lube will do it.
anyone have any other ideas or additives to put in??

Transmission only had about a 8oz of lube in it, so hopefully the 10min if driving around the yard did hurt it. should i put anything in the tranny with the oil??

there was a tone of sludge in the bottom of the tranny when i stuck my finger in there to feel if i got all the oil out.

    thanks

Re the sludge, I'd suggest you drive it a few hours and change the gear oil again. Probably sludgey from years of sitting, oxidizing and condensing water.

well got all fluid drained and filled. evwerything seems to work properly, i know why there wasnt any oil in tranny and TF cause they leak, a little from the front of thr TF where the drive shaft comes out and cant really tell where the tranny leaks.
can you put a 140wght oil to see if it will slow the leak?

Thanks for all your help this weekend

No, I'd use the recommended oil. Jeeps are terrible leakers generally. It will be hard to keep it from leaking entirely. Just feed its habit until you're ready to replace the seals and gaskets - that will slow the leaking a lot, but probably not stop the leaks totally.

it could also be leaking from the dry seals. Once they get wet and expand it will probrobly get better. I dont know about the jeep seals but on my dads 1958 impala his tranny seal was made of a hemp kind of material.

Just put a clean pan underneath it so you catch what's gonna drip out. Trans can leak out of the input shaft (into clutch area) but has no seal between trans/transfer case just a gasket. Transfer case will leak out of the yoke seals, or lower pan. Just see what happens, then go from there. 10 mins in the yard probably didn't do much to much damage that wasn't already there, just play that by ear also. let us know what the diffy fliuds look like.

For many years I would go to the local appliance store periodically and get a refrigerator box. I'd bring that cardboard home and keep it under my Jeep, catching the drips. When it got somewhat saturated, toss and replace! :D
