Today was an absolutely B-E-A-utiful day here in the 'Burgh and as a result I actually felt liek doing something in the garage. The poor old Barstool Racer project has been gathering dust down in the corner of the garage since last fall, it's been just too danged cold down there to get excited about working on it.

Today I dragged her out and commenced to welding & grinding again. :) Got the steering setup all built and mocked up, as well as the mount for the "Moon" tank I'm going to use as a fuel cell. I also mounted up the new Bridgestone rain tires my B-I-L gave me (he's a Bridgestone rep) and here's the result:

    Steve,
That's gonna be sweet! Great set-up and that tank looks awesome... What engine are you going to run? Now, I'm ready to build another one... (after I get the CJ's clutch done)

Thanks for the kind words Chris, the engine will be a "blue clone" unit from Harbor Freight with a Comet TAV-30 drive.

I have to admit though, I pushed it up to the top of our little hill today and drifted it back down into our driveway and that little ride scared me a bit. Are these things as danged dangerous as they seem?

They are a bit unnerving at first... then you get use to it. The hardest part was getting over the short wheelbase and high CG when sitting on the stool. I tested mine at a local HS running track to get the feel for the handling, acceleration, top speed and braking... It will toss you off the high side if corners are taken too quickly on pavement; no it hasn't happened to me. Have fun with it, it'll grow on you...

    The answer is yes.
I saw a guy take a serious spill on one that had a 10hp craftsman on it.. Uneven ground is not your friend.
Biggest problem is how high all the weight is on those things.

Cool project though, just be carefull!!

Did you use your own plans or the one from BSR supply?

I used the "Pro Street" version from BSR Supply, but I made a coupla modifications along the way. The aluminum fuel tank and the removeable steering assembly were not part of the original plan..
