Not Funny!

    Ok, so I decided to rebuild the Dauntless after some discussion here.
    I should have known this was going to be expensive, when I dropped off the motor and the machine shop counter guy said that he had never seen it, nor could he find a listing for it in his catalog. I told him not to worry, I have an excellent source for info(ecj5.com) So I ran home and started tracking down parts. Today, I placed the order
    Machine work $400
    Comp Cam Kit $300
    Gasket Set $80
    Main Bearings $65
    Valves $160
    Valve Seats $30 (if he has them, if not I have to buy packs of 20 ($240) any help here would be appreciated
    Anyway after all this I still dont have a carb or intake so add the cost of that and a divorce atty after the old lady finds out ( anyone have a spare couch)

    I'm just venting a little This weekend I get to start sanding the frame

    Yeah it does add up quickly, don't it? LOL! Have fun in the doghouse! :rofl: Use your time wisely and get to work sanding that frame now. :)

    i bought a rebuild kit for about $430, heads rebuilt at machine shop for $200, kept it pretty inexpensive. till i got the headers:)

    If you were rebuilding why didn't you buy the whole rebuild kit for the motor from Autozone for $355 it includes everything but valve seals and seats. You only need 6 valve seats, they only go under the exhaust valves. The only other expense would have been aftermarket cam and machine work. The Autozone kit is top notch and they are the only supplier outside of Kanter but there kits are made of unobtanium or so they think.I replaced all my valves and only had about $85-90 in them, the springs were another $40-45

    Thanks guys, at first I thought that I might get ripped a little, but you guys made me laugh.
    I wanted a little hotter cam, so I didnt think the AZone kit was the way to go, however looking back perhaps it was.

    No I haven't got the pistons and rings yet

    On the valve seats, they say that they are pretty worn so I figure if I'm in it this far may as well get them all. Any suggestions as to a supplier (are these the same as the Buick 300)?

    On another note the machine shop called and said that I need to either bore or sleeve 3 cylinders due to rust pitting, I think I'm going to sleeve any thoughts. The guy said that he could go 30 or 40 over but he wasnt sure he would be able to get all the pits and have the rings seal good.
