I was putting new shocks on the 71 cj5 Saturday and snap one of the threaded parts of the upper shock mount off. Does anyone have any ideas on an easy to repair? Can I cut the head off a bolt and weld the bolt on to the post?

What I did on mine when it broke was grind off the weld on the back side of the stud and then ground off the front side took a big punch and pushed the old stud out. I then found a bolt with the correct length of nonthreaded collar and slid it into the old stud hole and just bolted the new shock to that. What you could do is weld it if you wanted but I chose to leave it that way in case I ever had to replace the shocks

Won't be strong enough to weld an end on. Better to cut it and grind it out as mustanghd described. I'd weld the new pin in.

You can also buy the complete mount. May be easier to grind off the weld to the frame, drill out the rivets, bolt on a new mount and reweld.
