    hello,
i have one m38a1.I buyed one set of baja high back polypropylene seats.the problem is on mounting them.especially the driver one with the gas tank under.
one thinking is to use the original frames with cutted the back.then weld one solid metal plate to the bottom and bolt the seats.
    anything other idea?
    photos would be great!
Also i would be appreciate some photos wity 4 point harness mount to the roll-bar.not cage.just the original with a reinforced X in the middle.

    thanks
    George

If your seat frames are in good shape you might not want to cut them up. They might fetch enough coin to be able to cover the cost of the materials to fab up some sort of frame to mount your seat on that would attach in the factory location. That way some one looking for seat frames for a resto would be happy, and you would have the funds on hand to do your seat swap. I *think* I have some pics of seat swaps into Earlies and 'A1s stored on the computer. I'll see if I can find them and post them up for you. Just my two pennies worth.

Well, if I had any pictures, then I don't remember where I stored them. Sorry about that, but I'll keep looking just in case.

Why not use some angle iron to span the tank and make mounts?

Sorry my M38A1 seat application is not exactly what you may have in mind but it may spark an idea or two.
I have been working on my M38A1 seats all day. It is a plan that I have been working on for months. I wanted to be able to remove both seats and place them on the ground or a stump at lunch time on the trail instead of lawn chairs bumping around in the back. It is also harder to joy ride my vehicle if the seats are lock in my basement. I also need the passenger seat removable for the tool box as well. Plus I have moved my gas tank to under the rear seat, so need the driver’s seat to be removable to access the new storage bin. However both bins under the seats will have little access doors at the sides so the seats don't really need to be removed unless it is a big item to store.
The main steal platforms I will be mounting the seat to are from each side of an old burnt out table saw. On the drivers side it form half of the bin top. The picture explains the drivers side the best.
On the passenger side I will be using the same metal plate but it will mounted on bolts that stick up from the tool box/bin. I will be picking up the support that is under the floor in the bin. The mounting plate will be raised about 3 inches above the floor. I can send pictures
of that tomorrow if you would like, as I should be able to complete the passenger side.
Also the driver seat is centered at 16 inches in from the side to line up with the steering wheel. However the center of my passenger seat will be 14 inches in from the side to allow for left foot space.
Hope this may help in some way.
    Ed

nice, your think about placing the seats to the ground!!!
i want the seats bolted.only if i can make the passenger to fold to the front as the original.to have access to my tools.
i have two original frames to cut the back and bolt the seats on them.
