I seeking information about the optional CJ5 / CJ3B Vented Windshield. Does anyone have one of these? Would you post some photos of the mechanism? Is this inner frame easily adapted to the CJ3A frame? Has anyone done this?

I think you could probably make one, the side brackets/ flip out braces that are used look really close to, or are the same as the ones used on 2 1/2 ton arm trucks. could get hardware from there, then fab up a frame and add some flat glass. I have one for my cj6 but can't find the pics right now. Do a search I know there's been pics of them here before.

The trick I think would be getting a frame bent up to match the corners of the WS cutout. The MB & CJ-2 were easy, their corners were square!

The only difference between the venting outer frame & a standard frame is the the venting one doesn't have the mounting holes for the wipers & it has a hinge section welded to it to hold the inner frame, other than that they're identicle.

The swing arms are the same as used on CJ2's and are available from some suppliers, 4WD comes to mind as one.

The inner frame is made of tubing that has been pressed into an "H" shaped cross section. This would be almost impossible to duplicate but there are stock aluminum extrusions that come close in size but bending them to make the corners could be an interesting exercise :(

I'm restoring one (thanks again Spud). Here is a link with a lot of information and picts.

Thunderpig, What are you using for wiper motors? vacuum or electric? And if eletric, any details on them? Also, any picts of your rear view mirror? Mine attached to the center divider, but mine is the only one I've ever seen that way. Thanks......

My rearview mirror is attached to the inside frame at the divider. So when you swing out the windshield the mirror goes with it. It is not my favorite setup. you have to re adjust the mirror to see and even then you can't get it right if it's at full open position. Can't post pics today. Maybe tonight.

Electric wiper motors, ordered from quadratec. Got to be careful with them when you swing out the window to full open then bringing it back in, or you can bugger up the frame.
The problem I have is finding wiper blades for the venting windshield. Best I could find is the shortest CJ5 blade and cut it off to length, I just don't really like to have to do that.

I have just restored one of these and was able to purchase a NOS inner seal from Peter DeBella Jeep Parts for $50. All my other parts were fully restorable and after sandblasting, new glass, it looks like new. I have the Trico vacume wiper on the drivers side and the hand wiper on the other. Not all that reliable, but authentic.

Dude, don't trash it!! Plenty of people would like to have that. I need parts from it if nothing else.....center divider, the mirror if it goes on the divider, all the parts, etc.

If you don't want it, someone (including me) would like to have it.......
