Oil Bypass Upgrade

I recently bought an AMC V8 that was a fresh rebuild, and one of the selling points, was that it had an "oil bypass upgrade". After I thought about it, I realized I don't know what that means. The "upgrade" part sounds like a positive, LOL, but I'm not sure.
I searched some forums and with Google but I didn't turn up anything meaningful.
Anyone ever hear of this or know what it does? I tried to contact the seller to ask him, but he won't call me back.
I was just curious more than anything.

Thanks for the link. I THINK I understand what they are talking about now, although I'm not sure it is really necessary.

 

I just purchased the Bulltear bypass kit. I needed a new timing cover and decided get the bypass as well. I understand that the manual bypass on the engine as oposed to the bypass in the oil filter sometimes opens and stays open allowing unfiltered oil to circulate thru the engine. Some say that if you simply replace the bypass spring when you replace the filter and you should be ok. If you have a ypass be sure to by filters with a bypass in them, not all do, Wicks is what Im using. I also bought the mid-plate to eliminate the gears wearing on the aluminimum which I think its great idea! Check it out at Bulltear.
