All of it was made by me, except the winch and fair lead. I can use it on the back as well that way via a hitch on my draw bar. I'll keep it in my bed to keep weight off the front.

Stay away from the Milemarker. Google milemarker, poke around in a few forums, I think you'll agree.
The 8000lb Champion is only available in the stores, not online. Keep in mind, the 9500lb champion uses a permanent magnet motor. PM motors are not known for taking abuse...stick with a series wound, they hold up to heat much better.

good job man  and if you wanted it even closer you could always mounted a plate on top of the frame rails, and mounted you reciever even farther back, looks great

I've played with a C style receiver to go from the hitch back and up instead of out front. I may do it someday... Although I need to calculate how much strain will be put on my frame vs. the straight pull
    Thanks none the less!

Since I had a 12k Milemarker on my Bronco, it got transferred to my Jeep. It pulled my Bronco out of a lot of VERY stuck situations and the only problem I had was during power out when I wrecked the drum clutch. Milemarker warned not to do it, but I didn't understand what they meant until I saw the damage. FWIW, they sent the parts for free two years after it was out of warranty.

There are a couple models of Milemarker that had problems, but not all of them. I think you'll find that many of the non-Warn or hydraulic Milemarkers are made by one or two companies and they're all comparable quality.

If you want super tough and can stand being a little slow, Pierce makes some outstanding winches, and some of them are priced pretty reasonably. They make wrecker equipment that's intended to be used constantly.

I did the same thing with my Cj5, but the (brand new) 8000 Lb Warn went on my car trailer as a loading winch instead of back on the Jeep.... Go figure. It gets used more on the trailer, anyways...
