I have a relatively new underseat tank for my 68. I was wondering if anyone has installed this tank between the frame rails in the rear? I am going to remove the diagonal bracing and build a skid plate under it. The only issue I can see is the lines coming into the bottom but if I protect them with a 1/4" stee plate I would think they would be ok. With my fiberglass body and slight body lift I will be able to snake the filler out to the drivers side.

    Any thoughts?

Hmm... Why not use the proper tank? A tank from a later Jeep is designed for the under-floor space, and will fit without any big changes. What you propose is "penny wise and pound foolish" IMO.

I have 2 tanks and love the one in the rear of the jeep, the p.o installed it with a selector switch on the floor in the middle of the front seats with a switch on the dash for the gauge,, i would definatly use a tank from a later jeep as Tim stated, IMO.

IIRC the underseat tank does not hold as much as the proper rear tank. 10gal underseat/ 15gal rear?

I am at the point on this project that money is stating to get a little(I am lying to myself....a lot:cry:) tight. Finding a decent used rear tank around the rust belt here is difficult at best so I was trying to utilize what I have.

Timgr you might be right though.:(

Are you putting it in as an extra tank or as an only tank? You could always go to a 15 gal rear when you have the $ later. 10 gal just doesn't get you very far.
