Very nice build, i read through the whole post and i am very impressed, you have done a great job and should be very proud of what you have accomplished. I will probably see your rig around town, more likely in the mountains and trails, i too live in denver and also have a willys project that I wish would come together as quick as yours. Mines a little different it was already modified with a 1/4 ton pickup bed and a welded 40's cab, so basically its a cj3a pickup, heres a pic

Fantastic results on your project,,,makes me feel bad that mine is taking sooooooooooo long!

Again,,great job, reminds me of a time 10 or more years ago I had a chance to buy a Willys Wagon, already had a 350 Chevy and (I think) saturn overdrive installed,,,guy wanted 1000$ for it, but as I was living in an apartment at the time I had no place to keep & work on it so I passed,,,regret it from time to time.

But,,,,,, I could do a solid axle swap into my daily driver 2002 Liberty,,, 9 inch fords with discs all aroind,,,and 4.88 gears with lockers,,ohh-ohh,,and coil overs all around,,and,,,38 inch boggers ,,and,,,

ok,, Im getting outa control here,,gotta focus on the current 80 CJ-5 project before starting another.

Nice work,,definately somthing to be proud of.

    Armouring has begun.

The biggest thing with this rig is that it is going to be seeing a lot of rock abuse, and as a result of this I need to make the body as resistant as possible.

I have gone over several ways to accomplish this, but ended up just going with some plate steel on the rear panels, some rocker guards (yet to be made), and tube fender (yet to be made).

Heres some shots of the driverside rear panel. The panels are bolted into the body and also welded to plate at the bottom that is sandwiched between the cage footer in the cab and the cage tie in plate outside the cab. Does that make sense?
