I don't want to tackle an engine rebuild nyself. Does anyone know of a good engine rebuilder in the San Diego area that has experience with the Jeep V6?

Aaron I took my V6 to Nutech engine systems in Lakeside. Once I get it back I can let you know how it went. It's been there for a few weeks and I'm still waiting to hear what the damage will be to my block if any due to a problem (small shop) with the timing chain gear teeth. They did a rebuild for a about 7 years ago for approx. $1800 and did a good job.

Another possibility is to buy a long block from one of the big rebuilders (ie Jasper) and have a local shop install it.

I don't think there's anything remarkable about the 225 V6 that would require more than simple competence. From a rebuilder's point of view, it's quite conventional.

a rebuild is easy for the novice to do, with a FSM. the trick is finding a good machine shop to to the required work and make some critical measurements for you. of course, there is no warranty that way, when you build it. JMHO

watch out for jasper... I work at a machine shop here in Leesburg, and we've seen our fair share of Jasper motors come in for issues like bearings failing due to dirt after less than 1500 miles.

yeah, they're all covered under warrenty, but is it really worth doing the job twice? We had this one Navigator come in for us to install a Jasper motor in it.. Well, one month and 3 Jasper motors later it's finally back on the roads. All covered by warrenty, but something's not right with that picture...

I've used a couple of Machine shops here in San Diego but I agree that you may be able to find a place there in Brawley or in El Centro that can do the rebuild for you.
Let me know if you want the names of the places here . . .

FSM, a few special tools, good machine shop = rebuilt motor. way cheaper than what it would cost to have someone else do it. and when someone quotes you a price, be sure they will find the cheapest parts to do the job. the :v6: is not that complicated. and you got good technical support on here. good luck:beer:
