Pinto was popular, I think I've heard of one VW diesel.

Look on the Novak site. There's a bunch of good info there. They still make the Pinto adapter, but it may be tough to find the right bellhousing today. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/engines_general.htm

If you want a modern 4 cylinder, the Chevy 153 is an excellent engine and an easy and inexpensive swap. http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Tech/EngineSwaps.html It is the same bore and stroke as the 230 cid Chevy inline 6, and was used in the Chevy II and some picjups in the '60s, and for a while in postal Jeeps. It uses the same adapter to the T-90 as the Chevy V8s, Buick V6s, and a lot of other GM engines, and can be found on the used market. The 153 has a larger displacement version at 3.0L/181cid, sold as the Mercruiser marine engine or GM industrial engine. With a little searching, you can find these.

The Chevy and Buick V6s are the most popular swaps today, because they are widly available and fit the Jeep engine compartment well.

dont swap it! I also have a 2a that was my first car in high school. My motor was shot beond beleif. I wanted to swap it rather than rebuild it but i ended up doing nothing which was actually the best choice because a couple years after high school i wized up and had plenty of money to rebuild it and im glad i didnt swap it. The flat heads are so cool dressed up. I figure it lived for 60 years its gotta be worth keeping :)
