I have a 1975 CJ5 and the emergency brake release handle/wire is missing. The foot pedal assembly is there and it works great, I just need the release. Does anyone know where I can purchase a replacement?

    Thanks !

I need the same thing. Can't find them. Does anyone know if one from a car would fit and what year?

Plenty in the junk yards. I'm assuming its the standard EBrake assembly, they are all over the yards. That type was put in lots of jeeps and trucks. Look for Cherokees.

I hear you, I wouldn't want to buy the whole thing either, I was just making sure that was the style you all had. I believe www.4wd.com sells the cable, but not the release handle. I'm stumped on that one. I'd happily grab you one from a yard, but I have no plans to go anytime soon, I did all my diving this summer. Maybe somebody else here. Good Luck.

Just bought a couple parts there yesterday, free shipping right now. not bad.

The stock configuration uses a thin, say 1/16" diam, steel cable to release the pedal. The cable has a black plastic sheath and attaches to a black plastic T-handle. Those cables were always breaking, even within the warranty period. I can't imagine that the aftermarket ones are any better quality, even if they are being made.

I think the later ones use a rod with a black handle that you lift up rather than pulling. If so, it'd be a nice upgrade over the cable.

IIRC mid 70's GM pickups used the same or very similar release setup. May want to check that option.

If you want a really Dutch fix I used a piece of baling wire with a loop in the end...

Cost me nothing and works just fine.

I got one on Ebay, but the original plan was to buy a T- handle from the Lowes, lawnmower style.

I think I got mine from Krage www.jeepdoc.com
It seemed kinda cheaply made but it's been working very well for a couple of years now.
