So, I wasn't planning on putting the e-brake all back together anyhow (I have no other parts). But this thing will just sling apart if I tried to use it.

Any helpfull suggestions welcome. (I've gotten the useual "Jackass" alreary from the wife)

You can just take it out.
Watch the studs that hold the backing plate they like to spin.
    Kinda pressed in from back.
Alot of them have been, new owner doesnt even know it had one, or what it is.
You can buy that drum I believe.
I have a whole setup used that I got on ebay and dont need.
Because I switched to D20 and axle drum ebrake

Great, Thanks for the quick replys. I thought that I might just be able to take the drum off. Now I need an 1 1/8" socket, but I love buying new tools .

You can just ditch the e-brake setup and gain ground clearance :)

1 1/8 socket, $20.00 Sears. Or a complete 3/4" drive set with ratchet, extensions and neat case for $38.00 at the Orange County Swap meet. I opt for the $38.00 set.

I was thinking of Harbor Freight for that socket that I'll use 2X in the next 10 years.
A set for $40 would be fine.

I have a couple of those laying around.

I have thought of ditching it in favor of a line lock, I never use the parking brake anyway. But the thought of moving someplace I may want it has kept me from ditching it.

I dunno. I have a socket that fits. I also have a factory e-brake that works great.... Buy a new (or used ) drum and make it work...

    :iagree:

A line-lock or a mico-lock is NOT a substitute for a mechanical parking brake!

HF is not bad for tools youre probably going to use only once or twice. Ive had my HF Impact sockets for 3 years now and havent broken one yet.

Also, Id like to get a set of E-brake shoes for mine 'oneday'. Am I right in assuming I dont have to turn the drum since its going to be used when the jeep is stopped anyway?:coffee:

You and me both! My rear axle shafts are out, and windshield is missing, but had to register it cause the old bat on the corner called the city on me. Had to register to be in compliance. Not like its in the yard or anything!R)
