Have a '71 CJ5. Would like to install aftermarket steering wheel but have questions. Stock wheel is flat and 17" across with little or no dish to it. Most of the after market wheels are
15" with 2"-3" dish. Has anyone out there used such a wheel and if so was thier much increase in steering effort because of the smaller size and did the deeper dish make much of a difference. Have any of you found a 17" after market wheel with little or no dish to it:?
    Thank you in advance:)

The bus wheel is available. https://www.walcks4wd.com/product.aspx?pid=1993 Flat dish wheels can be had but you'll have to search and you may pay more for one. I went w/ a Grant wheel that has about 2.5" dish X 15" around. It does set up pretty high and I would change it if I wasn't swapping in PS. When I complete the swap I'm going to lower the collumn 2.5" to bring it back to norm.:v6:

look into a mid=80's Camaro wheel. IIRC they are pretty flat.
I have a pretty small aftermarket wheel in mine and it steers just fine with power steering. I'll have to see what brand it is...

I'm sticking to the original big wheel type, so does anyone have any input on the quality of reproduction steering wheels? I've been trying to decide if buying a used one on ebay is better than a new reproduction. Can't believe what folks will pay for a used steering wheel!

I bought a reproduction from Turner 4wd (1-800-the-jeep, ask for Gene). I've been happy with it and it's suffered a LOT of abuse so far. If it were to break someday, I'de call Gene again.
