Well, just got the Jeep serviced and ready for deer season today. Lube oil and filter service. I decided to tighten my noisy fan belt. I tightened it but it still made noise. It has made noise all summer, but not enough to worry about. Just a chirp chirp at idle. I pulled the belt off and cleaned the pullies and the belt. Just for grins, I started it up without the belt. Same chirp chirp moise. Coming from the front of the engine. Could I have had a main bearing going all summer? No I did not tighten the belt too tight as to pull on the front bearing. Is there anything else in front that can make a squealing and chirping noise? When I changed oil, it had no debris in it and it has 40 psi oil press at 1000 rpm. What the *#^$ happened! I think I will drop the pan on the old f134 and see what it looks like tomorrow. I hope someone has had a similar problem with a better outcome. Boy, the jeep still runs great with great oil pressure. Any help or advise would be great.

Don't pull the engine apart based upon the "chirp". A bad bearing manifests itself with either a loud knock-knock-knock (rod bearing) or a serious drop (non-existant) in oil pressure (main bearing.)

It's been awhile since I worked on a 134, but doesn't it only have one belt that drives the water pump and the generator? I have heard water pumps chirp though. If you had a bad main bearing you probably wouldn't have very good oil pressure. If you have a bad rod bearing it would be knocking. Could it be the distributor?

With the belt off the water pump and gen are not turning are you sure it's not coming from the back? Throw out bearing?

I'm wondering if the fuel pump might be making a little noise. Any possibility the pulley is rubbing on something?

I'll change the fuel pump and see. Yes it is the vac style. I have been wanting to get rid of it for some time now as it is not needed. Yes the noise is coming from the front. Thanks all and keep the ideas coming! I really appreciate it. I have had this noise off and on all summer, that is why I had a hard time believing a bearing. Thanks again everyone! Have a great day! Brian.

Maybe a drop or 2 of oil in the intake side of the pump.

You might pull off the water pump and check the bearings on it. Besides, it's a good excuse to flush the cooling system.
