A guy I work with told me his son has an old Jeep for sale. I went by his house this afternoon and looked at it. It is a ECJ5 with F head, T98, D18 with pto and rear mounted gear box. The body is off the frame and looks to be completely rusted out. The frame, axles, & running gear "look" OK, but everything is exposed to the weather. The transmission shifter would not move. Do ya'll think the trans would be OK or is it probably full of rain water? Can a T98 be adapted to my V6? What is the probable gear ratio in this Jeep's axles? I'd like to have something lower than the 3.73's in my Jeep. I might be able to get this Jeep for $300, is it worth it?

    Thanks!

The rear gearbox alone is probably worth $250

yeah get it. or let me get it :) Pop off the cover to the tranny to make sure. unfortuanetly the t98 i got was exposed and all the innerds were ruined :( Anyway if you do get it, it has the adapter to the t98 so you can get a new input shaft and main shaft to make it work with the v6. this is how i did my swap.

No it is not. But if you PM me with the contact info on said Jeep I will gladly remove it from your area so you don't have to think about it. ;)

Likely axle ratio would be 5.38 with the F head. Possible 4.27 also, but not as likely.

As others have said, the parts are worth more than 300. And don't chuck the trany just because it has water in it. Dump the water out, tear it apart, clean it up. You would have to replace some seals, maybe the bearings. But it's not a total lossjust because it got wet.

I don't yet know how much he'll take for it, he wanted to think about it for a couple of days.

The only thing that makes this a hard decision for me is that I've been saving up for a new suspension. My current add-a-leafs are beating me to death. If I buy this Jeep then I'll be starting over on my suspension fund.

    finish your Jeep first
the other isn't going anywhere soon.....
ask him to call you first when/if he decides to sell
    get it on your terms
every gear in the trans could be ruined by the water if it's been sitting out.
    my 0.2 worth
