I recently aquired a 56 CJ-6. She's rough. Frame is good, rear half of the tub is missing, from about the end of the extensions back. Plan is to possibly find an early 5 or 6 tub and section the back onto my 6. I believe the trans is the 90 and 18 t-case. The engine kind of has me a bit stumbled. From what I have found out, it may be a Falcon/Mustang straight 6. The fuel pump and parts of the distributor are missing. Any tips or suggestions are appreciated. :)

Welcome from the country's opposite corner. Looks like a lot of work ahead of you. Thanks for deciding to bring the old girl back to life.

Hey, I've seen that B4:). Depends on your plans for it I guess. I'd start w/the mechanicals first. I'll assume no brakes, all seals leak and the powerplant is suspect. Once you get the chassis dialed in, then concentrate on the body. Rear section of a CJ in the NE that's still good is going to be your biggest challenge. I'll keep my eyes peeled for you. Gotta love those 56's:hurrican:

Yep, Falcon inline 6. Could be 144 or 170 or 200 cid. They were popular for a while to swap into Jeeps because the bellhousing is shallow enough that you can use the F134 T-90 without changing the input shaft. I think this is the same bell that is used with the 2000/2300 cc Pinto engine swap. As you can see, the inline 6 requires some firewall changes. The Falcon 6 is short as inline 6s go, but still too long for the Jeep engine compartment.

The 144 only has 4 main bearings, but I believe the 170 and 200 both have 7. These are good engines, lightweight, and reliable. The cast-in intake manifold provides positive ID, and also prevents doing much to improve their breathing.

Yep, looks like a fun project!

Thanks all, and timgr on the engine info.! I'll probably check this engine over at some point and see if it's usable. I did notice the exhaust manifold has been patched in a few spots from cracks.

    I love a project!
