Dana 44 axle install

    Hoping Glen will pick up on this. New bearings etc. Passengers side installed first, that is the side that had the shims. Re-installed as disassembled.
    Drivers side will not go in all the way, botoms out in the differential. Pictures shows it as far as I can get it until it bottoms out.

    without pics, can't tell
    is the rear cover removed and you can see the axle up against the thrust block ?
    do you have a powerlock ? button fallen out?
    axle bearing pressed all the way on ?
    axle splines not twisted ?

    John, why don't you try installing the drivers side first. What I mean is, how many shims do you have on the passenger side? It would seem to me that if the shims are on the pass side, then you would install the pass side last to set preload or backlash or whatever it is. You wouldn't think the new bearings or races would be thicker.(thinking out loud) for what it's worth, that's my opinion.
