OK, I finished up the saginaw power steering on my '6'. Wrapped up all the loose ends, filled the pump and followed the suggestions for priming I found searching in the forums here. There was some faomy fluid at first after turning the wheel lock to lock several times. There were a few squirts out the cap and I refilled a couple of times. Level now seemed good. Pump was not making any odd noises at all.

Lowered the JEEP off the jack stands and tried turning the wheel and there was no power assist. It turned hard like manual steering. I turned the wheel several times lock to lock thinking it needed to be under load to prime. No go. Checked the level and it was still good, no foamy stuff, no bubbles.

All the parts were sourced from my '70 Commando and worked well when removed. I don't think there was an opportunity for moisture to get into the system. What is the problem? Am I doing somthing wrong here?

Yup, never took then off the steering box and only one of the ends to the pump have a fitting.

I'm taking a break now and I'll go out in a little bit and take a look again.

You could take the low pressure hose off at the pump, run it into a bucket, and see if there's any flow.

It works!!!There was no flow. I took off the pressure hose and removed the flow control valve. I see that I put the spring in after the flow control valve, which means no flow. I switched that around and whala! I've got power steering.

Power steering with the single knuckle to knuckle tie rod makes for a very nice driving JEEP. Thanks for the help.
