Without telling me my wife went and bought me a pair of front seats for my 75 CJ.

They are the Smittybilt ones http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=15301

Anybody using these? How are they? Any drawbacks?

I know the passanger side won't fold (but my stock one doesn't fold anymore either R))

I had been planning on having my stock ones recovered, but since the Smittys are here I'm tempted to just use them.

Sorry - no experience with the low backs. I recently ordered a set of high backs with matching covers from jegs --> seat link. Should have them in this weekend.

Just out of curosity I read somewhere that using a seat belt with a shoulder harness like in the newer cars have with a low back seat is a really bad idea. I haven't been able to locate this article. Is it true? and if so why? Anyone shed some light on this ?

They look nice, almost original even. I don't know about you, but if my wife ever bought me something for the Jeep... (I will like it!) R)

look like really nice seats. i'd throw the original frames in the attic and put those in. all you need is a pair of good hinges mounted on the front of the brackets to make them flip up!

I just installed some of these in my J2000: http://www.4wd.com/productdetails.aspx?partID=7036

Pretty darn nice. I did the vinyl. They're slightly firmer than the Bestop high backs but way, way softer and more comfy than one certain brand I ran in my 4Runner. Can't name names but it ryhmes with schmorbeau.

I'd wager the low backs are similar in comfort.

By the way, I installed Bestop low backs in my '71 CJ-6 and retained the fold-forward feature on the pass. seat. It just took a little fabrication to the seat frame. I gave the photos to our web geek to put on jpmagazine.com over 3 months ago but the poor guy is swamped.

I'll see if I can dig up the photos of the modification on my work computer tomorrow and post 'em up for you here.

John, use the seats your wife bought for you (maybe with the mods Dummy will post)
Don't throw away all of those "Willys Points" by not using the seats... no matter what you think (and you'll probably really like them), make sure she knows they are "the best ever!!" :D

As for the shoulder belts with a low-back... yeah, seems like not a good idea. Sit in some low backs, mock up the belt, and visualize theactions/reactions of your body during a frontal crash. Best to go with a wide lap belt with low backs.

Found the photo but no time or program here to resize. Somebody who can monkey with it please shoot me an e-mail at christian.hazel@jpmagazine.com and I'll send you the photo.

Basically, I just took some 1-1/2-inch wide 3/16-inch flat stock and welded it to the inside of the stock seat frame. Worked perfectly.
