I have a 73 CJ5 with the stock 304 and a T-18 (4 speed tranny) Who ever set up the tranny used a clucth cable instead of the standard mechanical linkage. I am having a hard time finding a replacement cable and I am now wondering how difficult it would be to move to a hydralic clutch. My jeep has a GM steering colunm, with tilt wheel and the clucth lever exits the fire wall very close to the steering column.
Anyway did any of the CJ models use a hydralic clutch configuration?
The mounting of the master cylinder or the slave cylinder doesn't really bother me its how much modification I need to do to the current clutch mechanism. I can bolt things in place but major modifications are difficult with limited knowledge and tools.

    Any help would be appreciated.

I used a YJ master for my clutch, 3/4" bore.

    I used a Master/Slave and line from a '86 CJ7.

If you want to stick with mechanical, I have all the stock parts from a '75 CJ that are in great shape.

    xlr8n,
so you had room to bolt the master to the fire wall? was it very close to the steering column?

How about the slave, did you have to make up a bracket for mounting?

    thanks

The master was mounted well above the steering column. I was more worried about it clearing the brake master. It did fit with about an inch to spare. Click here for pic.

I did have to drill a hole in the clutch pedal and weld a pin to it for the rod to attach. Click here for pic.

Regarding the slave mounting, I had to build my own bracket. See the following two pics for ghetto fab at its finest.

thanks for the pics, I'm going to look closely tonight at mine. See my current clucth rod exits lower near the steering column I have to see if there is enough room straight off the back of the clutch peddle. Thanks again

I looked close last night. I have two probelms, one as you mentioned I may just be able to clear the brake master, but I have a battery (of two that I have) right there no room what so ever. So I think I'm going to have to see how the new clutch cable I'm getting works out.
