gas gauge problem

    my gas gauge goes to about 3/4 of a tank and never shows full. what could the problem be the sending unit or the gauge

    gauge wires or float. gauge should read between 10 and 65 ohms on a meter. 10 omhs at empty. Wire on the back of the meter could have rust on it and cause the low reading. Its possible to clean the wire with a copper wire brush. This will either work or finish off the gauge. Float might have gas seeped into it witch might cause it to read low.

    I have the same problem, it used to work fine then one day it wouldn't go to full. let us know what you find out.
