Do I need a special bracket to mount a delco alternator on my 1974 CJ5 with a 304. I can not seem to figure out a way for it to line up with the mounts that are on there.

Are you mounting a Delco internal regulated alt?
Is the new mount on the delco to big , 75 below bracket had the 1" opening for the external regulator alt.
If this is the problem you can cut the casing (thicker mount area )on the new alt to fit between the mount . I done this on my 74 , when I swapped to a Delco alt.

    or
swap alt brackets from a later amc CJ engine .

Yes its the internal regulated one. I can only see half of the hole on the bottom mounting bracket.

Pretty sure I had to make the slot longer in the bracket. This enabled the alt to swing up farther , for the mounting bolt to fit in the bracket slot .

I,ll check its been a while , but pretty sure that is what I did.
