High Voltage

    I have already searched the forums.My Motorola alternator is putting out way too much voltage.I do not want a GM alternator.Already put new regulator on it.Still same. During my searches have read people having same problems but no one has given an answer. PLEASE and Thank you

    Oakie-Doakie, I'll have a shot at this since no-one else seems ready to make a fool out of themselves R)

    Regulators work by turning the field coil on & off, when it sees the voltage rise too high it opens the field coil's ground connection.

    WQhen the voltage drops too low it re-connects the coil to ground.

    If both of your regulators are doing the same thing & they arn't both bad I see two possible reasons for your excessive charge voltage-

    First, the regulator itself has a bad connection to ground, floating it at a level, in your case about three volts, above the actual ground level.

    Second, the wire that connects the field terminal of the alternator to the field terminal of the regulator may be shorting to ground, causing the field coil to always be on.

    Worth looking at anyhow-

    thank you for the information .It was the regulator not grounded .
