Has anyone used the rain gear covers or suggest a better one? I like the idea of just covering the inside area. I think this might be easier to get on. Most of the covers I have seen, start at 76 models. I have a 73. I spoke with a lady at raingear and she said her tops would work but it seems starange that they have the same top for both model cj5's. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I used a Rain Gear cover on my '71. Fit great, worked well. Kept many heavy rains out of my tub when I didn't feel like putting the whole top on.

    Well worth the price.

I have a raingear on my 74 cj5,fits great. I don't even strap it down and the wind and rain doesn't get in. Heavy material, easy to put on. The guy told me to spray the outside with campdry once a year to keep it waterproof. For $100 its a good deal.

How well will they hold up being outside ALL year long in VERY hot conditions (Blythe CA, 115 in the summer). I leave my jeep out at the river where we have a place, and it sits outside. I, like others here, have tried a couple covers but they quickly disintegrated. I like the looks and fitment of the raingear cover from the pics, and would be willing to cough up the $100 if I knew it would last for a while.

Mine was periodic, not constant use.

All I can say is that the fabric is heavy, seems much like factory automotive "convertible top" fabric. I would think it would last much longer than those sheet-thin covers from some catalogs...
Have you called the Rain Gear folks, see what they think of that application?

It's a lot like a boat cover but twice as thick. Since we moved, my Jeep spends its days and nights outside in the sun and rain. Cover is 6 months old and as good as new.
Call them and have them send a color swatch and fabric sample to see and also get a light colored one to reflect the sun.

We hit 105 at the shop today.

Thanks for the input. Definitely sounds like a 'win'. My last one I paid 100 bucks for (can't remember the brand) lasted about 3 months before it started coming apart.

Are you guys talking about some small covers that just go over the passenger area, or are you talking about big covers that will cover a whole Jeep all the way to the ground? I'd like to know about some full covers that protect the whole thing, down to the tires. Storage covers, like you'd use on classic cars, etc.

    Via Google - http://www.jeepcovers.com/

The top covers the cab from the bottom of the windshield to the tailgate and the full doors. Look at the site for pics.

These covers, i assume they ramp down behind the roll bar. Is this true? or are they made that you can put it over the regular soft top or if you had a family cage in the jeep.

Why would you get one for a wrangler? The one I pictured is a CJ5.

They do ramp down behind the roll bar, but one of the many boat upholsters around here could build a cover for you probably cheap to fit your needs. They use thick canvas similar to raingear.

Ah, missed the part about the family bar. I would think a canvas shop could do it but I would be shocked if it were cheap. Around here they are very proud of their talent.

Lake close by - lots of boat and canvas shops. Simple design - mostly square.

Mine came in yesterday and I put it on last night. Fits GREAT. The material is much thicker than I had expected and the fit is much better than I had expected. It's always nice to have a surprise to the upside. They even sent me a free hat with my order. www.jeepcovers.com is where I ordered for the post above.

I just received mine the other day. Definitely looks sturdy. Haven't tried it yet. Even came with a Rain Gear Hat! :)
