My 1966 CJ 5 has a 225 V6 with a motorola alternator and voltage regulator. Is this a stock set up for this model or maybe switched over?

Throw it away and put in a GM style with internal regulator. One of the best changes I ever made.

+1 on the GM style internal regulator. I had to replace my stock Motorola alternator and regulator a number of years ago and went with a ACDelco 150 amp alternator. Works great!!

Motorola is 35 amp, barely adequate for a bone stock Jeep. Add accessories and it's overtaxed. As said, go with a Delco, get one with at least 20% more capacity than your max draw.

I wanted to keep mine as ORIG as possible so I put in 60 AMP rotor and stator over 30 years ago and still working fine. Like the small compactness of unit also. In the eyes of the beholder, I guess.

When you say internal regulator do you mean one wire or the type with the two post plug?
