The po of my jeep 1974 cj5 had a wiring harness out of a 1975 for it but all the connectors have been cut off the lights etc and the new harness has them is there any way to figure out what connector should go where that would help me more than the wiring diagram case the wires have alot of paint on them thanks

If it is a wiring harness out of a 75, a 75 diagram is the place to start. It will show the # of wires and connectors(sort of). FSM is the place to look or search here for wiring diagram, one is available online

I took pics of the backside of my dash before I took it out to help me when I reinstalled it. The 74 to 75 should be the same except for the addition of a fuse block.

Go here for more pics http://picasaweb.google.com/irmosc/74JeepCJ502

I don't know that the reference you want exists. The FSM may only have the circuit diagram - that's the standard way to show the wiring harness.

The '72 Jeep manual shows pictures of the harnesses. If you look at www.c104.net or trailforge, you can find that manual there. Certainly by 1975, Jeep changed to a fusebox instead of the inline fuses used in 1972-3. I don't know whether the 1974 model got the fusebox or inline fuses... if it has a fusebox, the circuit diagram is your only reference. If it has inline fuses, the '72 manual might help. Clear?

Not sure if the rest of your wiring is in ok shape or not, but Painless has got a good 12 circuit chassis harness with fuse box and all you'll need to wire the whole jeep, believe it's goin' for around $350. give or take a little.

For what it's worth, given the age of the harness and the condition it may be in, a new harness fro Painless or other supplier may save a lot of headaches. I know thats the rout Im going, and it's already saved me a lot of stress. Plus, I now will be wiring in the Fuel Injection harness into new wiring, not something over 20 years old. Just a thought

So far it has been a major pain but the harness is in good shape just missing a few plugs here and there and having some plugs for a 6 cylinder.Just finding time to work on it is the biggest problem.
