Ok here we go, I am getting ready to pull the body off my 76 cj5, I am stretching the body and frame 20 inches. While it is apart I am going to swap in an auto trans and box the frame in.I think I am going to stay leaf sprung so I think I will cut it in front of the perches. The body really scares me, I don't know if I should use sheets of metal to make up the 20 inches or if I should us another jeep tub to patch in the 20 inches. Any suggestions about anything I am about to face would be a great help. I am intimidated by this project but excited at the same time.

x2 on the other jeep tub to patch in

luckily for you, the middle section there doesnt tend to rust as much as things like the front floor boards, so finding a rusty tub that has the parts you need shouldnt be a big deal!

    as for the frame...

are you going to extend it in the middle? or lengthen it off the back?

depending on where you stretch the tub, i think i'd be easier and maybe a lil safer (?) to stretch the frame off the rear.

    just my $0.02

this will be a cool build...share pics!

or you could just buy a CJ6 ;)

Look at the CJ-6 on how they added the 20 in.

A friend purchased a CJ6 tub from JC Whitney it was delivered one week late poorly wrapped but in great shape, it has a little ripple on the drivers side and a very small chip on the drivers side rear corner.

IMHO you'd have to find another 6 tub -- the 5 doesn't have the metal in the shape that you'd need. Although you might be able to use the upper lip / rolled edge from sections of a 5 tub.
