I swear, it's magic....

Okay, since we're wheeling this weekend, I thought I'd wait until today to do something about my "starting" issues. For the past several months, I'd hit the starter button (this button will come up again) and I would just hear a "click" sound. Thought it was the solinod. I'd clean up the connections and it would work fine for 4-5 more starts and then start clicking again. So, today I replaced the little green wire from the solinod (picture 1) and ran a new wire to the top of the ignition thingy (picture 2). Now, the starter button (picture 3) has a wire that runs to the top of the ignition thingy (picture 2) and another wire that runs to the mess of wires that also are attached to the ignition thingy, it connects with the bundle of wires in the front of the picture. Until today, to start the jeep, I would turn the key all the way to "start" and then hit the button to start it. Now, after I replaced the wire, the ignition thingy (picture 2) starts the jeep and the button does nothing. It has had a button start from the day I bought it. I double checked to make sure that I reconnected all the wires to where I found them and I only replaced the wire from the back of the ignition thingy to the solinoid.

I also cannot spell solinoid.

It's magic I tell you....although now I'm wondering if I'm running current though something that I'm not supposed to be.....

 

okay, just a little update. I completely removed the starter button (picture 3) and it still starts when you turn the key to start. Why in the world would it suddenly start working like this? I'm nervous to drive the thing now. My whole world is different.

You removed the start switch and now it starts with the key? Isn't is suppose too do that?R)

 

lol..well, yeah, it is supposed to do that, but why would the PO's have a button in place of turing the key? I even replaced the button several years ago because it wasn't working. I could start the jeep. Until about an hour ago, you could turn the key all the way to start and nothing would happen until you pushed the starter button. I replaced the wire that goes from the back of the ignition to the solnoid and now when you turn the key it starts. Nothing is any different then it was except now the key works and the button doesn't.

I dunno, guess I'll just drive it.

Yep, and a theft deterrent. With a button, you have a start up "procedure"...R)R)

 

Yea I just had a similar experience hoping into our Friends 53 3A, turned key, nothing, had to push button with foot, similar to pushn button for HIGH/LOW beams They were geniouses back in the day
