Just musing at this point but was wondering if anyone has done this on a commando.A friend has a 82 chevy pick he is parting out and it has the side tanks so my squirrel brain started running-I should go get the steering box now that I think of it I have a three bolt out of a camero but the truck would have a heavy duty four bolt box-what else?

I heard about some side tanks that were an option but havnt seen them.
I saw someone put drop down tool boxs behind the rocker panels.
    So anything is possible.
I have duals on my chevy truck and there is no way they would fit under my Commando.

The saddle tanks on GM trucks have a terrible history of bursting and burning on side impact. There was a big class-action suit about them. Not sure what the date-range is, but I think '82 is in the right range.

You thinking of saddle thanks that mount in the rear quarters? I vaguely recall something like that.

JMO - you're better off enlarging the rear-mounted tank.

My Commando has dual side mount tanks, filler tubes are in the front fenders, the tanks are mounted under the rockers, about 1'x1'x2' ish, heavy steel box. There is a valve to control which tank you use between the seats.

You can see the drivers one hanging down in the side pic on my site:

Once I looked under my commando the idea of the chevy tanks went away-They would have to be much smaller and shallow. Maybe an import truck would have something that could work .Just remembered that Dads old Scout had one-it filled from the drivers side rear wheel well-was kind of a pain but good insurance when you were a ways out. I'd forgotten that some Chevy streering box were on the out side.Thank guys i'll still take a look at next time I'm out just to see what if anything is good for me.I think I'm set with what I have now all I need is serious time commitment.
