Where can I find a trailer hitch for my 1968 Cj5? My original rear bumper setup was rotted away and a tube bumper put in place. I'm looking for one that bolts up to the frame rails .Jc Whiney and others have no listings for hitches for Jeeps this old. I'm looking to attach a small trailer up to around 1/2 ton -Class 1?

If it is the old style. I believe Willys Works has a few or you could build your own custom one

I saw one of those on ebay once. I was afraid to go for it. Where do all those holes bolt to? The rear face of the rear crossmember? I dont know if it is legal here to make your own trailer hitch I think it has to be DOT approved ?? Pennsylvania has strict laws on everything

If your rear crossmember is bad you can replace it w/ a repro one.
The drawbar and triangular hitch weigh quite a bit so find someone close.

If you do a good job building your own trailer hitch. I don't think the cops would even know there have been a lot of posts on this site of people making their own square hiches. And there are many places that sell the parts

I removed the draw-bar and installed a receiver piece.

I can make that old school style hitch. Some measurements would be helpful. As would some pics from different angles. The 4 vertical attachment bars look like they bolt up to the rear crossmember. Do those 2 angled brackets go up to the crossmember that is above the rear axle and bolt on? I cant tell. Ill have to re-route the exhaust. I have duals w/mufflers exiting straight out just below the center of the rear bumper. Home made.I cant post pics, I have a camera but everytime I try to post pics there are problems with the size etc etc.

PS Where is the swap meet in PA? York? When?

Hey Josh, just saw you made exaust that exits out back, have you run it much? I had that on my 3B, and it exausted me so bad I'd get sick driving it even with top off. I switched to out the sides behind rear wheels and it solved the problem. Out the back looks way cool though!;)

No- the fumes on the exhaust arent bad. Maybe you had a leak somewhere up front? I dont know how they could be bad they go all the way straight out the back. I put 2 rear exit manifolds dual 2 inch exhaust we bent with the pipe bending machine my brother made (machinist) and ran it over the rear axle to 2 -14 inch turbo mufflers at angles then angled them straight out about 1 foot apart and 1/2 inch below the bumper. I would have used smaller pipe but his machine is set up best for 2 inch. Use what works I say.

Oh, maybe because I have a glass body with no tailgate opening. (Solid back) There is nowhere for it to get in.
